12 Hour Care for Children

In the UK professional child care providers such as Nannies, Nursery Carers, and Childminders must complete a suitable paediatric First Aid Course at regular intervals. Our 12 Hour Care for Children programme meets regulatory requirements necessary for such a first aid course.
The course includes both primary care (CPR) and secondary care (first aid) skills. The primary care portion of the course prepares the rescuer to render aid to an infant or child with a life-threatening emergency such as choking or cardiac arrest. Secondary care focuses on developing secondary patient care skills and building the rescuer’s confidence to render first aid to an infant or child in need when emergency medical services are either delayed or unavailable. The Care for Children course content is based on guidelines from the Paediatric Working Group of ILCOR.
Subjects covered include:
  • All the course content from our Care for Children Standard Course.
  • Febrile Convulsions
  • Meningitis
  • Sickle Cell

DurationTypically this course is run over 2 consecutive days. However the mandatory 12 hours required by the HSE and OFSTED can also be delivered over a longer period of time should staff availability be a problem to your organisation.
Course AccreditationThis course is valid for 2 years from the date of completion.
Pre-RequisitesCandidates must attend all sessions to be eligible for accreditation. Candidates must be physically able to carry out the detailed procedures (see course overview)
AssessmentAn assessment will take place on the afternoon of the final day by the instructor to review candidates understanding of the course. Along with a multiple choice question paper.
