First HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Clair, we ate the cake, drank the gin and the vodka (not in the same glasses) and sang Happy Birthday...
Then reluctantly collected the equipment and packed our bags. Our thanks go to Dive.IS (https://www.dive.is) and our guides Frazer and Adrian for making the trip run smoothly. That leaves us (Clair Bailey, Rachel Perry, Tracey Roberts, Colin Smith and Alan Starkey) to sign off and hope you have enjoyed our little daily updates. We will of course be recalling you with our tales and boring you with our pictures in the forthcoming weeks. See you all soon. On to the next trip (Rachel no doubt will tell us shortly how many hours, minutes and seconds to that one!).... Today was day of superlatives of which we ran out off.. starting with AWESOME and ending the day on WOW.
Yes, Day 3, Silfra. I will leave a few taster pictures with you... They pretty much say it ALL... A Facebook album will be created and more will be uploaded. But we wanted to share these early... So today, two shore dives at Garður... slippy entry and exit over kelp and rocks... and yes a few of us did fall over a number of times.... The 'dying fly' look is becoming quite popular... A pretty little site, saw lots of kelp and interesting little critters, a few are exceptionally ugly. Followed by an interesting dinner - soup in bread... very tasty... pictures to follow...
So today, an itinerary change, plan was to do two sea dives but unfortunately due to wind direction (sound familiar!!!), we swopped day 2 to day 1... so off to Lake Kleifarvatn we went to dive the newly discovered thermal underwater hot springs. A couple of things were missing from this dive those being ... the thermal and the hot bit. A top temperature of 2 degrees was achieved. yes really 2 degrees.... https://youtu.be/9xswxeCra48
After the dive, we then visited the boiling mud pots and colorful sulfur deposits at Krysuvik - Seltun an area rife with geothermal activity. So today, we travelled to Iceland, all packed with cold weather clothing - well some anyway as on 23Kg most of that was taken up with drysuits, base layers and normal diving stuff.!!!
First tip of the day was from Clair.... Do not wear sparkly tops when going through Heathrow security, you end up "assuming the position" as you have set the security alarm off!!! Perhaps Clair you should have been wearing your Trip Polo Shirt...! On arriving in Iceland it was sunny and warm - yeah lets hope it stays like this.. so onto the Flybus. The best fact of the day... Apparently you have a 250,000:1 chance of meeting Bjork, we say why? does she still live here?... The answer was "Because it's oh so quiet"... well we did laugh... Onto the hotel, all checked in and then Alan surprised us all and presented Clair with a Birthday Cake (birthday Monday), well now we are impressed... it came all the way in Hand luggage! Below are a few pictures from our walk tonight and the cake... |
