Dive Rutland Rescue Workshop

24/4/2017

Picture
The time arrived on Saturday for our much talked about Dive Rutland Rescue Staff Workshop...armed with our individual rescue scenario role sheets, which detailed our role and only our role and an outline for the evening's Scenario.... we all arrived in eager anticipation.

But before the scenario, a few timed swims were undertaken, followed by a skills practise of Unresponsive Diver Underwater and Unresponsive Diver on the surface.

The Scenario set....
The dive boat SS Dive Rutland has set sail around Rutland water on her maiden voyage, on board is an eclectic mix of divers from all experience levels and nationalities.
The Skipper Tracey (Captain Birdseye) Roberts is a worthy and experienced old sea dog not only as a diver but skipper of many ships including the SS Titanic, The SS Britannic and many more to boot. In fact, her experience is so much that she is in the Guinness book of records! Because every ship she travelled on sank!!!
The SS Dive Rutland left in a hurry and forgot to pack a few things (so be aware not everything may not be on board that you may need). She has moored up on a popular wreck in Rutland water for us to dive and we have 9 divers on board.

No sooner does man discover intelligence than he tries to involve it in his own stupidity…
Jaques Yves Cousteau

The dive started with us all getting into the water and having a dive around and then on surfacing well it all happened!

There were three girls on a hen weekend, who had been out the night before and were generally there for a bit of fun - except they had drank to much, and watching them 'dancing during the dive' was entertaining, then one sick on surfacing and one to ill to dive in the first place! The skipper became ill, finally diagnosed with indigestion after exiting the water.  Then no scenario is complete without a missing diver and a search in low visibility (search divers provided with blacked out masks) and to cap it off a shark attack!

If it could go wrong it did.....  There are no pictures of the actual scenario but a movie has been put together of the some parts of the evening.

A great evening, with lots of fun, laughter and good role play and very informative.  A Huge thank you to the team for participating and extra thanks go to John Sinclair for organising the evening.  Then finally the Oscar for best actor went to .... James Dames...
