St.Abbs - August 2016

22/8/2016

Maybe the trip should have been called Eyemouth 2016, as that is where we finally stayed and dived out off, but hey never mind....

After a very long road trip on Friday afternoon, the van finally made it to Eyemouth (7 hours, for a 5 hour trip!)... Weather and traffic not a good combination.

No time to have a look around the B&B as those who had arrived were waiting for me to go eat... So off to the pub we went.  Nothing like Fresh fish and chips (the scampi was not bad either) when at the seaside, it has to be done...

Saturday started with a leisurely breakfast as we not launching until 13:00, so time to offload van, setup and have a walk around.  During which we were introduced to the resident seals in the harbour.. They know which boats are coming in that are fishing boats, following them down to their moorings and then 'begging' for fish.

Sea conditions lumpy but two sheltered inshore scenic dive sites dived - Peanut Boat or SS Odense which is surrounded by rocky reefs and beautiful kelp forests after a surface interval Thrummie Carr was dived.

Sunday arrived, with an early breakfast then straight out to load the DiveStay van and off to the harbour for two more dives.  The sun was out, the sea a lot better than yesterday but conditions still not at their best so Weasel Loch and West Hurker dived.

During the four dives lots to see and very pretty, just some of the sights included: dead-men's-fingers, anemones, crabs, lobsters, gobies, kelp, ballan wrasse, nudibranchs, sea urchins, starfish and Jellyfish to name but a few of the sights.  Some say dolphins, but as yet the photographic proof has not been provided.

Thanks to DiveStay (Zoe, Billy, Gary and all the backroom crew and staff) for a really good couple of days.... see you next year?
