Discover TEC
The PADI TecRec Discover Tec Course is designed for those divers interested in Technical diving and wishing to try out the equipment configuration used for Tec45 courses and above (or below depending on your view point!).
There are two options for Discover Tec at Dive Rutland:
Option 1: Confined Water Only
Conducted in the pool, the course includes briefing, equipment configuration briefing using ours or your own twin cylinder set up, hose routing and bouyancy device (wing). You'll spend as much as 1.5 hours in our pool perfecting bouyancy and getting used to the equipment you are wearing.
Option 2: Limited Open Water
Following the same process as Option 1 we meet at our preferred open water site, Stoney Cove, and undertake a dive to a maximum of 10 metres using Tec45 equipment. You may opt to carry a stage cylinder also. The primary purpose of the dive is to experience the diving style and equipment of Tec diving.
In both options we may provide skills demonstrations which you may also complete if you choose - up to you!
Equipment:
This course uses the same equipment configuration that you would use for technical diving and courses at Tec 45 and beyond. We acknowledge that many divers acquire twin cylinder set ups without receiving appropriate training and orientation. However you may use your own equipment for this course.
Considerations:
We have a range of technical diving equipment for hire for use on the course. For confined water (Option 1) we charge £15 for the equipment. For Option 2, full equipment hire including technical gear, drysuit, fins, mask, dive computer is charged at £55. Stage cylinders are available in 7 and 11 litre capacities. Nitrox may be used in both stages and back gas at additional cost to those suitably qualified, see EAN Training. Open water site entry fees and transportation are not included.
Prerequisites:
You must be a certified Open Water Diver (or equivalent), aged 18 or over, with 10 logged dives to participate in either Option 1 or 2.
All our open water diving is conducted in drysuits. You may wear your own drysuit, semi-dry or wetsuit. It is advisable that you are comfortable with drysuit diving prior to engaging in technical diver training. If you do not have experience of drysuit diving you may wish to consider undertaking drysuit training with us prior to the Discover Tec course Option 2.
