Why become a Dive Instructor?

The rewards of being a Dive Instructor are immense – changing people’s lives, helping to overcome fears, facilitating career and lifestyle changes, forging deep and lasting friendships – but there are challenges too!

Plenty of hard work and dedication are required.  If you’re ready for that, then read on…

Why with US?

Now if you are reading this, then you know that Diving is Fun!! So, learning to become a PADI Instructor should also be Fun! we can guarantee to make your PADI IDC will be fun!  We did not say easy we said FUN.

It’s so important that you are well prepared and relaxed for your PADI IDC Instructor course. The word “Stress”  and “Learning” cannot possibly go together.

When you are relaxed, laughing and comfortable, you, will learn lots about teaching others to dive.
You, and the team that you’ll be working with, will develop different ways of passing information and skills over to others.

You’ll learn how to:
  1. Build rapport with your future students
  2. Create confidence in others
  3. Teach everybody, regardless of their individual learning style
  4. Allow students to learn in their own way
  5. You’ll learn to “Teach People – and NOT Courses!”
  6. Teach students whilst in a natural diving position NOT on their knees
  7. Kneeling way and neutral way - Different ways of getting the student to be successful with skills depending on working conditions and environment.

Not only that, you’ll learn how you will become very effective and an efficient mentor and coach because here at Dive Rutland we question the fact that you are an instructor.  We can not instruct a student in "how to partially flood and clear your mask" what we can do is show them how we do it and then they have a go, this is coaching, the student effectively teaches themselves.

We will also cover in a separate module the UK HSE requirements for working Professionals, so YOU fully understand YOUR responsibilities if working in the UK.

Naturally, the IDC itself is demanding but we are proud of our  Professional team who have huge amounts of energy, enthusiasm, humour and patience, with our Course Director Tracey Roberts we will thoroughly prepare you to be 100% ready for the Instructor Exam, but most importantly ready to teach REAL students afterwards.  Yes it it is about passing the Instructor exam but really its about YOUR confidence to go and bring peoples dreams to life.

Others like you have become PADI Instructors with us and they are now around the world changing other peoples lives! They are putting into practice what they learned during their PADI IDC with us.  Even after the course we will stay in touch continue to support and provide advice.

  • Full set of diving equipment including suitable exposure suit
  • Two pieces of rope - different thicknesses

We are happy to run IDC's for other dive centres at your location, please get in touch to discuss

Preparation

At the start of the IDC you will complete a theory exam and an open book standards exam.  There is no time during the IDC to teach theory, yes you should have the knowledge but it is different knowing the theory and being able to teach it.
As Albert Einstein said

If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough
We do offer preparation days ahead of the IDC but by preparing yourself thoroughly in advance, you will get more out of your IDC training and avoid feeling overloaded.

To prepare independently we recommend that you:
  • Revise the five dive theory topics, Physics, Physiology, Equipment, Dive Skills and the Environment, Recreational Dive Planner.
  • Make sure you have the latest version of the PADI Instructor Manual or update yours with the latest Training Bulletins
  • Review the 24 skills you practiced during your PADI Divemaster course - have a look at the skill circuit on our YouTube Channel
  • Practice Rescue exercise 7; ‘Unconscious Diver at the Surface’ exercise from your PADI Rescue Diver course.
